Summer P-EBT coming soon!

Minnesota was approved for Summer P-EBT benefits during the summer of 2022. Students who were signed up for free and reduced-price meals during the 2021-22 school year will receive $435 in Summer P-EBT benefits. These benefits will be issued to the black and white P-EBT card starting in late July.

For kids 5 years old and younger who were enrolled in SNAP, MFIP, or Tribal TANF, families will get Summer P-EBT benefits issued to their household’s EBT card in two payments: the first one in August for $218, and the second one in October for $217.

What do I do if I don’t have a P-EBT card?

If you previously had a black and white P-EBT card, the benefits will be issued to the original card. If you have lost or thrown away the card, you will need to order a new card by calling EBT Edge at 888-997-2227 or going to www.ebtEDGE.com to request a new card. There is a $2 fee for replacement cards.

If you did not receive P-EBT benefits during the school year, you will be issued a new P-EBT card. It can take a while for the card to be processed and mailed to you. Expect it to take 2 to 4 weeks to receive the card.

We have moved since last school year. How do I update my child’s address?

You will need to update the address with both your child’s school and by filling out the state’s P-EBT webform here: https://pebthelp.state.mn.us/

How long do I have to spend P-EBT or Summer P-EBT benefits?

Benefits must be spent within 9 months of being issued. This is a change from before when you had one year to spend the benefits.

We weren’t eligible for free and reduced-price meals last school year, but our financial circumstances changed. Can we get P-EBT?

Maybe. To be eligible for P-EBT your child must be eligible for free and reduced-price school meals. To be eligible, your gross household income (before taxes and other deductions) must be less than:

In order to get Summer P-EBT, you can apply this summer for free and reduced-price meals for NEXT school year. Contact your child’s school for details on how to apply. The $435 in Summer P-EBT benefits will be issued in late October for students who just signed up for free and reduced-price meals for the next school year.

Your family may also be eligible for SNAP. Use our SNAP Screening Tool to find out if you are likely eligible for SNAP.

I have only received benefits for one of my school-age children. Who do I need to contact?

Not all benefits are going out at one time. Benefits for some children might be added to their cards earlier than others, but you should receive benefits for all children by August. If you do not get benefits issued to all eligible children by August, contact the P-EBT Call Center at 651-431-4608 or 833-454-0153 or submit questions through the P-EBT Help Form.

My kid attends a CEP school. Do I need to do anything?

A school participating in the Community Eligibility Provision or CEP has enough students directly eligible for free school meals to be able to serve free meals to all students without families needing to apply. If your school offered free school meals to all before the pandemic, it was likely a CEP school.

Students in CEP schools were registered for Summer 2022 P-EBT benefits.

My family has received Free and Reduced-Price meals in the past. Do I need to do anything?

Yes! If you used to sign up for free and reduced-price school meals before the pandemic, you need to sign up for meals for the upcoming school year. Apply at your child’s school before Sept. 2 to be eligible for $435 in Summer 2022 P-EBT benefits.

My child starts kindergarten this fall, can we get the $435 in P-EBT?

No, but you should still sign up your child for free and reduced price meals if you are eligible. There may be additional P-EBT benefits later this year and your student needs to be signed up for free and reduced price meals to be eligible.

I have kids under 5, can I get the $435 in P-EBT?

Yes, but only if you are currently on SNAP. Families with children 5 years old and younger will get two rounds of Summer P-EBT benefits added to their SNAP/EBT card. One payment in August for $218 and another in October for $217 ($435 total). If you aren’t currently enrolled in SNAP, contact the Minnesota Food HelpLine at 888-711-1151 to check if you are likely eligible for SNAP.

I have other questions, who do I contact?

If you have questions about your child’s Summer P-EBT benefits, contact the P-EBT Call Center at 651-431-4608 or 833-454-0153 or you can submit questions through the P-EBT Help Form.
