The recession has impacted more than half of the nation’s working adults, pushing them into unemployment, pay cuts, reduced hours. The emergency food safety net in Minnesota has responded to increased visits to food shelves, more students qualifying for free lunch at school, and a 33% increase in Food Support enrollment.

Section 8
The Section 8 Housing Program helps senior citizens, disabled individuals, families and single individuals pay their rent in a privately-owned rental unit. The Section 8 Program is funded through the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). To be eligible for the program, total household income must fall within the guidelines established by HUD. A qualified household may rent any type of unit suitable for their family size and type. Any type of rental unit can be rented. However, it must meet the Section 8 standards and pass an inspection.
