Minnesota Food Shelf Bill of Rights

As a recipient of food from a Minnesota TEFAP food program, you have the right to:

  • Get food free of charge without giving a donation, paying, or working.
  • Be provided with clear policies and procedures for receiving food.
  • Have someone else pick up food on your behalf.
  • Access translation or language services in the language you choose.
  • Receive food without discrimination on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, age, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, martial status, or place of residence.
  • Confidentiality. We will not share or sell any of your personal information.
  • Be treated with dignity and respect.
  • Get food at any food shelf you choose in Minnesota, without having to prove where you live or your nationality.
  • Make choices about the food you receive.
  • Refuse all or part of the food shelf’s services, including food.

If these rights have been violated, you have the right to make a confidential complaint.
