Use your voice to end hunger

Improve low income Minnesotans’ access to nutrition

Problem:

When 13.8 Percent of Minnesota Households Struggle with Hunger, we all have a responsibility to do what we can for our communities and fellow citizens.

Solution:

HSM offers you opportunities to bolster the self-sufficiency of hungry Minnesotans, by helping them to obtain nutrition assistance and to create the political will to end hunger.

Action Needed:

We need all of our elected officials to have the will to strengthen and expand nutrition assistance programs and to commit to ending domestic hunger.

VOICE OF HUNGER Advocates Network

Why Advocacy?

Long-term hunger relief requires public policy intervention and systemic change. It works when you lend your voice to the chorus. Voice of Hunger Network members motivate decision-makers to take supportive action on state and national hunger policy issues. Hunger is an important political issue that voters want government and political leaders to address. Most are favorable toward aid and food programs, often even if it means increasing spending in those areas.

I use my voice to end hunger

Push for stronger nutrition and human needs programs to support low-income people during the current economic downturn and time of rapidly rising food prices.

  • Ask elected officials about their commitment to addressing hunger and poverty in Minnesota and what specific policies and investments they support.
  • Send elected officials a questionnaire about their policy positions on hunger and poverty.
  • Meet with reporters and editorial writers and urge them to ask candidates about their positions on hunger and poverty.
