  • 1 in 17 Minnesotan’s rely upon food shelves.
  • There has been a 62% increase in food shelf visits since 2000.
  • Food shelves are seeing double & triple digit increases.
  • Minnesota is in the top 10 of the 50 states in high economic distress.
  • Food stamp recipients are increasing and the poverty rate is rising.
  • We need to raise our voices to a new level and create the will to end hunger.

Push for stronger nutrition and human needs programs to support low-income people during the current economic downturn and time of rapidly rising food – Get Nutrition Program Priorities into the Election-Year Debate

  • Host and/or attend candidate forums (in a non-partisan manner).
  • Ask candidates about their commitment to addressing hunger and poverty in the U.S. and what specific policies and investments they will support.
  • Send candidates a questionnaire about their policy positions on hunger and poverty.
  • Participate in non-partisan voter registration activities.
  • Meet with reporters and editorial writers and urge them to ask candidates about their positions on hunger and poverty.

Hunger in MN

Hunger and inadequate nutrition are again on the rise here in the land of plenty, and warriors in anti-hunger campaigns worry it is rapidly getting worse. The faltering Minnesota economy, rising energy prices, out of control health care costs, an aging population living on fixed incomes, job losses and a broad-based dose of inflation are literally taking food right off our tables.
