• snap for immigrants

For many immigrants, being new to the United States can create challenges to affording healthy food for you and your family.

SNAP is a program that helps immigrants purchase healthy and nutritious food at the grocery store, ensuring you and/or your family has enough money for well-balanced meals.

  • A single adult earning less than $1,498 per month may qualify for SNAP. Families can also qualify with higher incomes.

Both U.S. citizens and many non-citizens are eligible for SNAP.

SNAP provides eligible Minnesotans with an EBT card that can be used to buy groceries in most Minnesota food stores. The average monthly benefit for a senior is $76 per month, and will vary depending on your income and the number of people living in your household. Once your application is approved, you will receive your EBT card within 30 days.

A simple process exists for immigrants to enroll in SNAP. Our friendly and helpful representatives at the Minnesota Food Helpline are available talk with you to see if you qualify for SNAP.
