TEFAP Update May 2008

We have mixed news this month from Hunger Solutions Minnesota and OEO/DHS regarding the TEFAP Program. The good news is that due to a recent “barter” program by the United States Department of Agriculture we should be receiving an abundance of highly desirable “bonus” products through the end of the year. Overall we should be receiving an additional 21 truckloads of product which include: frozen chicken products, frozen turkey ham, regular ham, canned tuna, canned salmon, peanut butter and pinto beans. Payroll Deductions Aim to End Hunger in Minnesota

We are pleased to announce that Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless is helping in the fight against hunger again this year with a $200,000 grant to Hunger Solutions Minnesota. Click here to read more.

HSM Emergency Grants Available

Hunger Solutions Minnesota is entrusted with $30,000 in state funds each fiscal year. Funds are designated for food shelves in Minnesota that are experiencing an emergency. Your organization may qualify for an HSM Emergency Grant if at your food shelf, you’ve recently experienced any one of the following: click here to read more.

State Tests Confirm Lead in Some Venison From Food Shelves

Thursday, April 10, 2008 – ST. PAUL, Minn. – State officials announced today that laboratory tests have confirmed the presence of varying amounts of lead fragments in a number of venison samples collected from Minnesota food shelves. Click here to read more.

Economic Stimulus Payment-Returns Must Be Filed By October 15th

Some low-income workers, Social Security recipients, veterans’ benefit recipients and Railroad Retirement recipients may qualify for economic stimulus payments and it’s not too late. Returns must be filed by October 15th. Click here to read more.
