The food shelf funding one time increase is landing on Governor Pawlenty’s desk (within HF 1812) this week. A lot of work on our behalf happened this weekend. The funding was saved on Saturday morning thanks to leadership and many phone calls from food shelf supporters.

You can make it possible! Call the Governor’s Office this week.

TALKING POINTS:

· Pass the NEW Food Shelf Funding – pass a State appropriation for one-time additional funds of $619,000

· It is critical that Governor Pawlenty understands the needs of the 1 in 17 Minnesotans that rely on food shelves.

· 2 million visits last year – 47 million pounds of food distributed – an increasing demand in today’s weak economy.

· The funds would be available to food shelves July 1. This is very timely because the summer always drives demand higher from families with children not receiving nourishment at school.
