Falls Hunger Coalition Food Shelf recently received $5,000 from Northland Foundation to continue the Senior Select and Fruit Bucks for Kids programs through April and May 2008.
The purpose of these programs is provide fresh fruit and vegetables to families with children 18 years of age and under; as well as providing fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, and dairy products to seniors. Vouchers worth $5 are issued that are redeemable at the local grocery stores.
Each month, the Fruit Bucks for Kids program serves approximately 165 boys and girls age 18 or younger. The Senior Select program serves approximately 102 seniors every month.
The money received from Northland Foundation has helped many people in the area, according to Erica Morrison, assistant director for the food shelf.
