Colleen Moriarty, Executive Director
Colleen Moriarty has been involved in poverty programs for the majority of her career. She has seen the devastating effects that poverty has had on our families and children and understands that basic needs must be met before families can succeed. As Hunger Solutions’ Executive Director and the chair of Minnesota Partners to End Hunger, she works to motivate decision-makers to take supportive action on state and national hunger policy issues.
One of Colleen’s strengths is portraying the story of hunger to the media and legislators in a way that is compelling and makes a positive impact on behalf of those in need and the organizations that serve them. Before her current leadership role at Hunger Solutions, Colleen was a Department Head at KARE 11, where she organized the Health Fair 11 program; Executive Director of the Minneapolis Youth Coordinating Board; and, Chief of Staff to Minneapolis Mayor Sharon Sayles Belton from 1994-2001. She was also elected to the Minneapolis School Board in 2002 and served through 2006.

Aby John, Business Manager
Aby John is the Business Manager with Hunger Solutions where he oversees the financial, administrative, and technology tasks that keep the organization running. He also manages the TEFAP program. Aby is a graduate of Iowa State University and has worked in both the private and nonprofit sectors.

Nicole Bailey, SNAP Outreach Coordinator
Nicole Bailey joined Hunger Solutions in November 2016. She is a passionate public health advocate, with a focus on addressing issues of food insecurity and other health disparities in communities throughout Minnesota. Nicole previously served as an abuse prevention specialist for a large school district in southeastern Wisconsin and has worked closely with several community-based coalitions. She received a bachelor’s degree in Community Health Studies from Portland State University and Master of Public Health degree from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities.

Timi Bliss, Development Manager
Timi joined Hunger Solutions in April 2019 and leads the development efforts for all Hunger Solutions programs and activities. She brings a passionate and collaborative approach to working across teams to support and advance fundraising and stewardship efforts. She has previously served in key nonprofit development roles centered on grant writing, planning and implementing fundraising plans, and engaging corporate, foundation, and other core constituents vital to meeting strategic mission-driven goals. When not at work, Timi stays busy as a children’s book author and illustrator and doting on her granddaughter, Charlie.

Jeannette Fernandez-Baca is the Program Assistant, working with TEFAP and the Minnesota Food HelpLine since July 2019. Jeannette graduated from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities with a Master of Public Health degree in May 2019. She has experience working with underserved and vulnerable populations, with a strong background in research and a variety of other areas. For a year prior to joining our team, she volunteered as a Violence Prevention Educator with The Aurora Center for Advocacy and Education, where she facilitated workshops, tabled at events, and participated in continuous education.

Leah Gardner, Policy Director
Leah Gardner is Policy Director for Hunger Solutions Minnesota. Prior to that she was Campaign Manager for the Good Food Access Campaign at the American Heart Association. Leah’s career has been grounded in a commitment to racial and economic justice. She previously led grassroots efforts in policy campaigns to advance economic equity for the Minnesota Budget Project at the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits. She began her career managing employment training and fundraising at Project for Pride in Living. Leah is a Voices for Racial Justice Apprentice and a graduate of the Humphrey Institute with a Master of Public Policy.

Rachel Holmes, Special Projects & Executive Assistant
Rachel Holmes joined Hunger Solutions in March 2015 as a Minnesota Food Helpline Associate. Rachel graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Political Science and is an strong advocate for social programs that equip Minnesotans with the resources they need for success. Prior to joining us, she was a passionate volunteer with Dress for Success, an organization helping women to enter the workforce with style and confidence. Rachel keeps busy with a constant stack of reading books, her 3 beautiful nieces, and a mischievous tabby cat named Dan.

Abbie Tish, SNAP Outreach Coordinator
Abbie Tish is a Minnesota Food HelpLine Associate, joining Hunger Solutions in July 2013. Success stories from callers is what fills Abbie with the motivation and passion to help hungry Minnesotans each and every day on our helpline. Prior to joining our team, she was a SNAP Family Resource Intern at Second Harvest Heartland where she conducted outreach to food shelves, dining sites, and shelters to pre-screen individuals for public benefit programs. In 2011, Abbie graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in American Studies & Sociology. And when not at work, she enjoys getting outdoors, spending time with family and friends, and obnoxiously updating the world on the newest thing her young nephews do/say!

Joe Walker, Program Specialist
Joe joined Hunger Solutions in 2010 as an intern and has since expanded his role to include outreach and support of our food shelf network. He runs our state food shelf and equipment grants and is also Hunger Solutions’ data, mapping, and technology guru. In a former life, Joe ran his own DJ company in Portland, Oregon, and worked as a chef at a small, family-owned Italian restaurant, where his passion for food was sparked.

Jill Westfall, Program & Communications Manager
As Program & Communications Manager, Jill is responsible for developing our communications strategy and oversees our SNAP outreach work. An advocate at her core, Jill’s career has focused on working to improve our public systems and policies so they help individuals and families live to their fullest potential. Prior to joining Hunger Solutions, she worked in Nebraska, serving in a similar role at Voices for Children in Nebraska. Jill holds a Bachelor of Arts from Creighton University and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Peter Woitock, Government Relations Specialist
Peter Woitock is the Government Relations Specialist at Hunger Solutions where he does much of our advocacy at the Minnesota State Capitol. Before joining our staff, he worked as a volunteer coordinator at Valley Outreach, a food shelf in Stillwater, Minnesota. Peter graduated in 2008 with a Masters in Advocacy and Political Leadership at the University of Minnesota – Duluth. Since then he has worked on political campaigns and in nonprofits, where Peter fights passionately to end poverty and hunger in Minnesota.
