ABOUT
• who we work with - office of economic opportunity

The Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO) administers a variety of federal and state funded anti-poverty and self-sufficiency programs. The Office of Economic Opportunity allocates over $40 million a year to more than 200 organizations and programs working with low-income families in Minnesota. Hunger Solutions partners with OEO to administer these programs:

  • The Food Shelf Program wherein HSM distributes 1.4 million of state allocated food shelf dollars to the state’s food shelves. Distributions are twice yearly and the allocations are based on the service statistics of each applying food shelf.
  • The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) which includes allocation and distribution of USDA commodities to the state’s six America’s Second Harvest food banks. In turn, food shelves order these items from the food bank for distribution to those in need.
