Market Bucks funded, food shelves get a raise

After a chaotic end of the Legislative session (and special session), Governor Dayton signed the final budget bills last week. Our policy priorities fared well at the Legislature. Here’s where they ended up:

  • Market Bucks funding was restored! Thank you to everyone who called and emailed lawmakers to make sure it made it back in the bill.
  • The food shelf funding increase passed at $375,000 per year for two years. This funding is for the purchase of proteins, fruits, vegetables, and diapers. It’s a win for Minnesota’s food shelves!
  • Mobile food shelf funding was not renewed. While the original funding was one-time money, it’s still disappointing to see it eliminated. We’ll keep going back to request mobile food shelf funding in future years.
  • The Good Food Access Program was included in the Agriculture budget. The Commission of Agriculture can appropriate up to $250,000 to the program per year.
