Help advance legislation that expands access to farmer’s markets, provides more children breakfast at school and deliver much needed nutrition to hard to reach hungry neighbors.There are currently 9 mobile food shelf providers distributing over 1 million pounds of food to over 50,000 individuals in Minnesota, and the needs are growing. We hope to increase the number of people served by 25% over the next year. In order to expand and reach additional people in need of this service funding is needed to help expand these programs.
Our proposed legislation (SF 513) would give many of these food shelves much needed resources. Mobile food shelves are a hunger relief tool that can be expanded in Minnesota, and we can be a model for the rest of the nation. This would be a great step toward alleviating hunger for many seniors and others experiencing barriers in getting to a traditional food shelf in the metro and throughout greater Minnesota.
